1. THE BUSINESS IDEA
1.1 'MOVE' will be a Charity providing accessible transport for people with disabilities within the London Borough of Islington.1.2 Why is it needed? 1.2.1 Islington is one of five London Boroughs which does not have a community transport scheme.
1.2.2 It is widely acknowledged by individuals and groups who work with disabled people that accessible transport provision for individuals is inadequate.
1.2.3 Public transport provision is largely inaccessible to individuals with mobility problems. 1.2.4 The quality of public transport services is frequently below acceptable standards.
1.2.5 Existing accessible transport is fragmented, with little joint planning between providers. 1.2.6 There are inadequate systems in place for monitoring or assessing the needs for and
quality of transport provision for people with disabilities. 1.3 The primary objective of 'MOVE' is to fill the gap left by the other organisations
currently operating in this sector. There is a real need to provided disabled people in Islington with a local transportation service to meet their needs.
1.4 'MOVE' will be run as a Limited Company with charitable status. 2. THE MARKET
2.1 'MOVE' customers will be disabled people residing in the London Borough of Islington.2.2 Whilst 'MOVE' does not want to restrict access to its service to any particular group of people
with disabilities, it is recognised that a selection criteria is required. Therefore, customers will need to demonstrate their eligibility through completion of an application form. To meet the
criteria customers will have to demonstrate that the use of other services such as bus, underground, private transport is not within their ability or means. Examples include, people
requiring wheelchairs, learning disabilities, registered blind etc. 2.3 It is anticipated that 'MOVE' will be run in co-operation with the other service providers rather
than in competition as we are providing a different type of service that will complement that of other organisations in this sector.
2.4 Due to the charitable nature of 'MOVE' and the other organisations, market price will be dependent on balancing what customers can afford to pay for the transportation and also the
financial constraints on 'MOVE' budget. 2.5 Other organisations providing community transport.
